Unabused

Unabused
Silence in the kitchen for a mystery maid
Wouldn't use wooden spoons to stir the lemonade
Couldn't hear the footsteps of the sensitive man
Only the thump of the pan he held in both his hands

Too unmoved to notice the fall
Of such a noisy little know-it-all
Too unamused to think of a game
Now that the mystery has been explained

Trouble in the rigging of a floundering sail
Someone forgot to alot for a September gale
Standing from the shoreline saw the mast going down
Coming unwound as the 'mayday' cried for higher ground

Too removed to answer the call
Just when the crewmen thought they had it all
Too unamused to think of a name
Now that the tragedy has left its stain

Made it complicated when the builder came late
Wearing a grin from the knowledge that he held within
Nobody could blame him when the town fell to ruin
None of the crowd paid attention to his ranting tune

Too amused and paying the price
Don't get a final warning more than twice
Too far to take the troublesome way
Keep the estate from being swept away
